Rafael Nadal loses at Australian Open hampered by a foul hip

Rafael Nadal stated he felt “unhappy” and “drained” on Wednesday, after his earliest exit at a Grand Slam because the 2016 Australian Open when he was eradicated within the first spherical.

The defending champion and No.1 seed at Melbourne Park injured his left hip and misplaced to Mackenzie McDonald 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 within the second spherical, abruptly ending his bid for a record-extending twenty third Grand Slam trophy.

“It is a robust second. It is a robust day,” Nadal stated.

“I can not say that I’m not destroyed mentally at this second, as a result of I’d be mendacity.”

At evening, 2022 French Open runner-up Coco Gauff bought previous 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu 6-3, 7-6 (4) in a second-round assembly between the 2 younger stars.

“I do know lots of people had been trying ahead to that matchup,” Gauff stated.

“I’m glad we bought the prime spot. I hope we delivered.”

Seeded males who gained included No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas, No.6 Felix Auger-Aliassime, No.7 Daniil Medvedev  – the runner-up to Nadal final 12 months and to Novak Djokovic in 2021, No.15 Jannik Sinner and No.16 Frances Tiafoe.
